Here it Comes… The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)

The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) which starts on 8 April 2019 within the area currently covered by the Congestion Charge.

At the end of this page is a TfL FAQ document.

Unlike the Congestion Charge the ULEZ £12.50 charge is all day and night every day of the year, 24/7.

It is  believed that more than 25,000 motorists will have to pay the new charge when going into the Congestion Charging zone including weekend shoppers, Sunday drivers, church goers and for evenings out.

The fine for not paying is £160.

As a rule of thumb petrol cars more than 14 years old and diesel cars more than four years old by next April will have to pay. It will also affect motorcycles.

The daily charge runs from 00:01-midnight. This means if your enter the zone before midnight and continue driving after midnight you will have to pay twice if your vehicle doesn’t meet the ULEZ emission standards.

The ULEZ charge will replace the £10 T-charge which, unlike ULEZ, only applies during Congestion Charge hours.

It will be extended to the area inside the North and South Circular roads from 25 October 2021.

Motorbikes and mopeds also have to pay the charge if they are older and don’t meet the ULEZ emission standards.
