New Bermondsey/Surrey Canal Independent Inquiry

The Chair of the Bar Council has appointed The Right Honorable Lord John Dyson to carry out the New Bermondsey/Surrey Canal Independent Inquiry. Lord John Dyson is the former Master of the Rolls and Supreme Court judge.

MCS google.jpgAs a New Cross Ward Councillor this was something I was involved with meeting and representing residents, businesses, and those with live\work units. I have spoken against the CPO in my role as ward Councillor, as Overview & Scrutiny Business Panel member, and in representing the views of non-executive Labour Group members at the Mayor & Cabinet meeting on September 7th 2016, as the Chair of Lewisham Labour Group.

It is very important that the Independent Inquiry is able to explore all aspects regarding the CPO, and events that have led to the need for this inquiry. Any regeneration of the area must ensure Millwall FC and the Millwall Community Scheme have a secure and sustainable future in the borough, and a Labour led Council this is something we must do, and this is also something any future developer must have due consideration of. We also need to ensure better considerations of all small business and residents that are within the area. Millwall FC and Millwall Community Trust is an important and integral part of not only our local community, but also within Lewisham.

I hope that this inquiry will lead to improve consultation and greater transparency. I also look forward to what lessons need to be learned and can be implemented.
